Starting in December, a NetID countdown clock and informational video were added to signs across campus as a final communication push to encourage users to start using their NetID. The project team began collaborating with other areas within OIT to create the MyProfile page, which allows users to easily look up their profile information, including their NetID. By October 2023, a project plan had been submitted to move SMU to Entra ID for SSO service. This would be a significant change in terms of effort and impact, and would initiate a strategic move to pivot SMU away from Active Directory toward the Microsoft cloud. We needed to make the entire SMU community aware of the coming change but also wanted to encourage everyone to adopt the new logon format even before the move to Entra ID in December.

Crafting a standout personal statement is pivotal in capturing the attention of med school admissions committees. At Med School Insiders, we understand the complexities and challenges of the med school application process—because we’ve been through it ourselves. Med School Insiders is the leading resource in helping pre-med and medical students excel in a career in medicine.

Realizing this would be a significant change for most of the user populations, including alumni and parents, OIT initiated an aggressive communication campaign. Assistant Professors Alipio Ferreria and Wookun Kim, and PhD student Shuo Qi presented their research. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding citizenship through dedicated service to the University and its governance.

Application Review

Practicing medicine and crushing med school interviews are two totally different things. There wasn’t a consistent teaching framework as I jumped from my prep course (Blueprint MCAT) to their tutoring. In any event, let’s dive in, starting with their MCAT tutoring service. Though in all likelihood, I would guess that 80% or more of people that use Med School Insiders use one or both of those services—the other stuff is more auxiliary. Before diving straight into discussing Med School Insiders, I need to clarify a point about which services I audited and reviewed.

Each expert provides tailored assistance to help you navigate every part of your journey, from primary applications and personal statements to mock interviews, proven techniques for improving your MCAT score, and so much more. Our team of resident physicians, attending physicians, and writers work together to produce educationally inspired works that support this goal. If your score does not increase after completing your tutoring plan, Med School Insiders will work with you for an additional 5 hours at no additional cost to you. Utilizing Med School Insider’s MCAT tutoring will most likely give you a heightened score; however, I think there are more cost effective packages out there. Depending on which MCAT tutoring plan you choose and the number of hours you need, you can plan on spending anywhere from around $2,200 to $9,000.

For the most part, the Med School Insiders team was fine. I would much rather have a consultant whose time was spent 100% on this specialty day in and day out. You don’t necessarily need a practicing doctor to better understand what admissions committees are looking for. You’re paying for physicians’ time, when that might not be totally necessary (discussed further below). Med School Insiders has four different packages (just like their tutoring packages), which range in cost from $2,500 to $11,000 (wow). After taking the MCAT, you’ll obviously need to go through the admissions process.

We can handle just about anything related to medical school and residency admissions. Connect with our team of experts and get the personalized guidance you need for your medical school journey. Mock interviews at Med School Insiders are meticulously designed to replicate the real interview experience at top medical schools—from MMI to more traditional formats. When applying to medical school, interview prep is an often overlooked but ultimately pivotal determinant in your outcome. The Casper test is an integral part of the medical school application process, designed to assess key personal and professional characteristics that traditional metrics can’t measure.

To be honest, these price points are fairly expensive compared to other MCAT tutoring services we’ve used and reviewed. Becoming a doctor is difficult, but getting accepted to medical school doesn’t have to be. The candidate must be very detail oriented, and have a passion for working with students, fostering intellectual discourse, and becoming fully engaged in the larger SMU community. The scholarship not only covered my program costs but also allowed me to focus on my internship without financial constraints.

Whether you’re a pre-med or a medical student, our high-yield courses will elevate you in your journey to becoming a doctor. I think a better bet is going with a dedicated prep course and adding direct tutoring with that company if necessary. Their comprehensive packages are reasonably priced, their advisors are more in tune with current admissions practices, and it was an overall more pleasant experience. Their prep courses are much more affordable, and just as effective for raising your MCAT score as Med School Insiders’ tutoring. The personal statement and application edits I got were good—but it also took time to get them back.

This experience taught me how to be resilient and embrace new opportunities with an open mind. My experience has increased my awareness of the subtle cultural differences that make Aix special and has also improved my public speaking skills. I had not originally wanted to gain experience in museum work, but once I learned about the history of Aix-en-Provence, I became intrigued by its artistic past. I applied to work at a local museum called “Espace Culturel Departemental 21, bis Mirabeau,” for a change. This is the second of three posts written by Maria Murad, a senior majoring in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs, Creative Computing, and French, about her study abroad experience. It was invigorating to see the enthusiasm attendees had for the collection, and to hear the bold vision for the library shared by President Turner, Dean Jeffcoat, and Mr. Rees-Jones at the groundbreaking ceremony,” says Christina.

According to Dean Jeffcoat, the library will allow visitors to “engage with art, exhibits, and digital resources, while researchers and students collaborate with librarians and archivists to unlock new insights into our shared history. “My support team relayed that a significant amount of discussion was put into the timing of the change, its relation to the academic calendar, the overall impact to campus, and technical difficulty for our user community.” This included logging in again on mobile devices that connect to campus Wi-Fi and email services. In the end, December 26, 2024, was selected as the most opportune time that would represent the least disruption to campus operations and to the user community, especially in the unlikely event that the change might not go as expected. Faculty, staff, and students received many types of notifications, including regular email messages, monthly updates in the OIT Newsletter, regular posts and reels on social media, and displays around campus on digital signage. While users had been able to use their NetID to sign in to services for some time, awareness of this functionality was low, and it was now time to raise that awareness.

All in all, I found the Med School Insiders tutors to be knowledgeable and helpful, but I was in constant conflict between my MCAT prep course and their teachings. Their tutor would blow off the teachings from the prep course and teach me a “better way” to attack passages. The other issue is that the Med School Insiders tutors taught me different stuff than what was in my prep course. There’s nothing about this program that’s cookie cutter.
